This book has been published as a formal catalog to accompany an exhibition of 77 individual works of art to be displayed at The Museum of Russian Art between April 20 and August 19, 2006.
The book includes 135 color illustrations, as well as historical commentary by Dr. Alla Rosenfeld and Maria Bulanova. Translation from Russian by Dimitrii Fedosov.
The text and the editorial direction of the book is to explain to non-Russians the interaction between official Socialist Realist art sponsored by the Soviet government between 1934 and the late 1980s and the rise of unofficial and dissident art created by nonconforming artists in the Soviet Union between 1953 and the late 1980s.
